November is National Diabetes Awareness and Education Month. According to the CDC, 1 in every 3 adults in America are prediabetic, totaling at 88 million people. There are multiple steps people can take to prevent diabetes, gain a healthier lifestyle, and even reverse prediabetes.

Take small steps: Making changes to your lifestyle and diet can be challenging, but you don’t have to change everything at once. Making small changes at a slow pace is okay, and it is important to know setbacks happen, but you can always get back on track.

Move more: Limit time spent sitting and try to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week.

Choose healthier foods and drinks: Pick foods that are high in fiber and low in fat and sugar. Plates that are balanced in vegetables, protein, and carbohydrates and drinking lots of water is important.

Seek support: Making a plan, tracking your progress, and getting support from your loved ones and health care professionals can help you throughout your journey. For more information, visit https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/community-health-outreach/national-diabetes-month
