Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States. This was passed on June 14, 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. The first official U.S. flag was made by Betsy Ross in 1777 during the American Revolutionary War, which had 13 stars and 13 stripes. Our current U.S. flag, with 50 stars and 13 stripes, was created in 1960.
