Wabash, Indiana, is the world’s first electrically lighted city. The event took place on March 31, 1880, when four 3,000 candle power lamps, suspended on the Wabash County Courthouse dome, were lit at 8 p.m. The illumination from the electric lights could be seen from over a mile away.
