Johnny Appleseed, born John Chapman, was a real-life 1800s nurseryman and American folk hero who planted apple orchards across the American frontier. He traveled ahead of settlers, planting seeds and establishing nurseries in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and West Virginia. Chapman’s goal was to produce so many apples that no one would go hungry. He passed away on March 18th, 1945 (70 years old) in Ft. Wayne IN.
