Effective April 15, 2023:
Kelley Automotive is pleased to announce an expansion of the Bereavement Leave Policy. We recognize the toll that the loss of a loved one takes on our employees, both emotionally and financially. To support our team members, we have expanded our policy for immediate family members to 3 paid days off.
We have extended this policy fully to part-time employees, if certain conditions are met, as well. We will no longer pro-rate bereavement time for those that work part-time and qualify.
Extended family member deaths will entitle you to one day of Paid Bereavement Leave, and this benefit has also been fully extended to our part-time workers.
We do hope the expansion of this benefit serves to ease the burden during these difficult times.
The full policy is set forth below and will be printed in the Handbook relaunch in May 2023.
Bereavement Time
Employees who wish to take time off due to the death of a family member should notify their supervisor immediately.
Three (3) days (24 hours) of Paid Bereavement Leave for the death of an immediate family member will be provided to full-time regular employees. Part-time employees also are eligible for bereavement leave if the required time off for funeral/showing occurs on a day that the part-time employee would have otherwise worked per his/her normal schedule.
Immediate family members include: spouse or life partner, children, and the employee’s brother, sister, father, mother, step-parents, step-children, step-siblings, grandchildren, and grandparents. Time off should be scheduled by the employee with employee’s manager at or near the time of the death.
One (1) day (8 hours) of Paid Bereavement Leave will be provided to full-time regular employees for the death of extended family members. Part-time employees also are eligible for bereavement leave if the required time off for funeral/showing occurs on a day that the part-time employee would have otherwise worked per his/her normal schedule.
Extended family members include: Employee’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Time off is generally granted between the date of death and the day following the funeral.
Bereavement pay is calculated based on the base pay rate at the time of absence.
Management may grant additional unpaid or PTO days as deemed appropriate.
